" I am quite well, brother. And I can see why they call you the most handsome man in Europe. I apologize for not giving more notice of my arrival but speed was of the essence.
My son and your nephew, King James, is to be married and he wanted me to extend an invitation, personally, to you.
He would be most honored if his beloved uncle would attend."

I smile at him, unable to contain my happiness.
" I shall send a messenger straight away to Stirling. I. myself , shall leave for the castle in two days to make sure that all is in readiness for you and your....bride."
Although I had always been fond of Katherine, she never stirred Henry this way > The laughter in his eyes, the warmth in his smile.
No.
Katherine was a Princess of the Blood, the Infanta of Spain.
While kind, she had also been extremely pious and devout.
A poor match for my brother .

I walk closer to my brother and place my hand upon his cheek.
" I have missed you, Hal," I say softly, calling him the nickname I had given him as a babe.
I loved my other siblings but I had always been close to Henry.
Gone was the little boy that I would sing to sleep.
Now, there was this handsome and powerful King.
He leaned into my hand and kissed my palm.
I smiled at him. "I ask your leave, Your Majesty, so I can make preparations to travel home."

I turn and walk away.
Upon entering my rooms, I call my servants to me. "
"Make haste to prepare for the journey back to Scotland. My brother, The King, has agreed to attend the wedding of my son, King James. Send a messenger ahead, today, to inform my son of our arrival and the arrival of the king five days before the wedding."

Maggie, my trusted servant, asks, " Your Majesty, we are in England. Do you not wish to spend time in the land of ye birth?"

For a moment, I think upon it.
Gone is the England of my youth.
In truth, I have been in Scotland longer than I lived in England.
Who or what was there to see?
Castles? The court?

I have castles in Scotland.
I have my own court.
As for the people here, the ones I wish to see are no more.
Mother,Father,Arthur......all gone.
And I have no need to see their tombs.
I have the tombs of my dead children to see in Scotland.

I take a breath and say brightly, " Nay, Maggie. We go home to Scotland. I long to see the hills and valleys. And besides, " I add in a loud whisper. " I have a wedding to help arrange."

A soft rap on my chamber door and my servant answers it,speaking to Henry's servant.
My servant comes to me.
"His Majesty requests that you join him and the Queen for a late supper before you leave for Scotland, Majesty."

The Queen.
I haven't met her yet even though I have heard the gossip of her.
I have heard that she has bewitched Henry.
That she is cruel and evil and a whore.
"Yet, Henry loves her," I thought to myself. " He loved Katherine but it was not passion. It was duty. "
Better that I see for myself what type of woman she was for myself.

"You may tell His Majesty that I would be most honored to accept his invitation. I look forward to finally meeting my sister Queen."
The servant return to the door to pass the message to young page.

I turn to Maggie. " Prepare the rose silk with the ermine trim. Call for Lettice to prepare my hair."
Maggie nodded. "And jewels, Your Grace?"

I had packed some jewels. Not the Crown Jewels, of course, but still some of the finer pieces my husband had given me. Then, I remembered the one piece of jewelry that I always carried with me.
" I shall wear the jeweled York rose. The one my mother gave me."
It had been hers and Henry would remember it.

Now, to prepare to meet my sister Queen

I sit before a burnished looking glass while my servant puts the finishing touches to my hair.
I have chosen the red silk from France along with the York pendant made from diamonds and pearls.
I touch it gently as it is pinned above my left breast.
For just a moment, I close my eyes and I can see Mother wearing it on day of Arthur's wedding. Her blue eyes laughing and her golden hair shimmered in the candlelight.
I bring myself to the present when Maggie gently clears her throat.
"The messenger is here, Your Grace. For the message ye wish to send to King James."

I nod.
"Thank you, Maggie.," I turn to the young scribe, his quill at the ready. "To my most Beloved King James of Scotland. I wish to apprise you that your uncle, King Henry of England ,and his Bride, Queen Anne , have graciously accepted your invitation to your marriage.
I, myself, shall return to Scotland within a fortnight to assist Your Grace.

Your Loving Mother,
Margaret , Dowager Queen of Scotland"

I then turn to Maggie.
"Wish me luck! I'm off to meet my newest sister. "

I look at my brother's servant : A very handsome young man, to be sure.
I smile brightly and say, " I am very excited to meet my new sister, Queen Anne. I must thank her for making the King happy. Surely, she must be heaven-sent to make His Majesty so content."

I stand and nod slightly to the young man. "Shall you be escorting me to the Great Hall? If so, may I ask the name of so handsome an escort?"

I see Marie walk into the reception room and i move forward to greet her.
"Marie my dear do please come in and have a seat.
Have you met my sister Margaret my dear? The queen mother of Scotland?.
I approach Marie and whisper in her ear.
"If she asks you of the pregnancy it is best you do not mention me in anyway about it whilst around her okay?"
