"Because only a fool such as Catherine and her uncle would overlook the death of an insignificant daughter and would assume we would not know the difference."

" The guards shall be tripled around Katherine and Anne. I have ordered taste testers for all courses and the court physicians on hand with every possible antidote for all known poisons."

Straightening my mask, I held out my hand to him. "Shall we, Your Grace?"

I looked at them both as I slightly bowed my head.
" Your Graces are indeed the Gods made mortal. " I indicated my head to Anne. " You look more beautiful and more glowing than Aphrodite could ever hope to be. Indeed, if Paris of Troy were offered the choice again, he would chose you to be the fairest of them all."
And I did not lie.
Anne's dark eyes lit up with pleasure and her skin was actually glowing. Her costume complimented her growing belly while still giving the appearance of the timeless Goddess of Beauty.
Henry's costume only enhanced his handsome face and physique as he gazed at Anne with pure adulation and love.

My son motioned them closer so they could hear.
" It has been brought to my attention, " I said softly. "That there is spy in our midst. We fear that this spy, a female in the employ of Catherine, intends to do harm to Anne and Katherine. They shall both have guards around them , at a discreet distance ,of course. We have taste tasters and we have also taken the liberty to have wine tasters also as well as having all the court physicians."

Anne's hands went to cradle her belly and I could see fear in her eyes for her unborn babe.
I rushed to reassure her and grasped her hands in mine.
"Never fear, my dear sister. No harm shall come to you or the babe. Vincent himself, " I indicated to him as he came to stand beside Anne, " shall be your personal guard. I only ask that you do not stray from him or eat or drink anything until he deems it safe. We even have an idea of who the spy is."
I quickly informed them of the fake Jeanne and of our suspicions.

Henry Tudor's eyes flared in anger and who could blame him?
His unborn child AND grandchild were being threatened.
The Two Henrys would not allow this.

As Jeanne

Jeanne looked in the mirror at her reflection.
She smiled at her beautiful reflection.
Her costume was that of Eris, Goddess of Discord. The different shades of black and gray highlighted her golden hair.

A knock on the door forced her to leave her reflection and she opened her door.
There stood a mousy little maid from Catherine's servants.
The young woman looked about anxiously ,clutching a brown parcel.

"May I help you," Jeanne asked.
"Yes..yes,milady. This is from my lady. She said that you would know what to do with it." She held out the parcel.

Jeanne took the package from the girl.
"Tell your lady that by this time tomorrow, it will be done," and Jeanne closed the door.
She placed the parcel on a table and then walked to the bureau next to her bed and pulled a pair of thick gloves and put them on her slim, white hands.

She walked back to the tablet and opened the package.
Jeanne carefully lifted up the beautiful purple flower.

" So beautiful, so deadly," she murmured.
Jeanne, who was actually Carlotta Bianchi from Italy, had been sent to bring Henry Tudor to his knees as well as Henry of France.
Nothing so ordinary as a dagger slipped into their hearts.
No, Jeanne knew that the best way to hurt a man was to kill what he loved best.
And the foxglove would do that just that : Kill the great Whore and the bastard daughter while also killing the spawns they carried.
Placing a few of the pretty flowers in her jeweled pomander, Jeanne removed the gloves and then carefully placed a new set of gloves in a hidden pocket of her gown.
After washing her hands carefully, she smiled at herself in the mirror.
With a quick once-over her gown, she left her rooms, humming softly to herself

I listened to the news as Claude spoke to me.

"This is indeed outrageous. To hear that someone here at the court would dare to threaten my wife and cause harm both to my daughter and also to my unborn child is commuting severe actions of treason and i will not stand for it.

Claude i wish to know how we plan to act to catch this spy. I want her captured at once" I say as i go over and hold Anne's hand.

As Jeanne

Jeanne entered the ballroom while the musicians played a soft melody.
She watched the guests as they mingled and ate and danced.
Fools, she thought.
Her eyes wandered until she say the Kings standing off to the side, Queens Anne and Claude with them.
Whatever it was that they were discussing must be important judging from Henry Tudor's expression.

I had a long conversation with King Henry of France and before we began the ball we were waiting for all guests to arrive.

As they all soon arrived i escorted Anne onto the dancefloor as Henry nodded and the musicians started to play.

I looked towards Queen Claude after she mentioned a spy in our midst and the threat she posed to my child.

"I thank you personally dear sister for allowing me your chief guard for protection i will like that.

I cannot have any harm coming to my dear child for not only my sake but his Grace's too. I can assure you my lady i shall show no fear at this feast and until the royal tasters have eaten and tried all food bought out i shall not eat it." I say as i looked at her once more.

"May i suggest to your majesties myself and Henry having heard of this spy believe would it not be best to double the guards at the celebrations tonight to prevent spy from leaving and then have her arrested?" I say curiously to Claude

[b]As Jeanne..[/b

Lifting her mask to conceal her face, Jeanne turned from the royals as she searched the room for possible exits and escape routes if need be.
She looked about the ball room until she saw a young man, a servant, pouring which was no doubt the very best wine into jewel encrusted goblets.

Putting a smile on her face , Jeanne walked to the table where the servant was standing, preparing the goblets on a tray .
When he saw the beautiful woman approach, the servant's eyes widened.
Surely, he thought, a lady of the court would not even notice him.
Jeanne stopped when she stood before him, a sweet smile upon her lips.
"Perhaps you could help me ?," she asked seductively.
The young man blinked. "Milady?"

Before she could speak, an older servant, no doubt in charge of refreshments said, " Pierre!'
The young man turned his head to the servant and while his head was turned, Jeanne dropped a flower into the two smaller goblets that were designated for the women and ignored the two larger goblets.
Her movement was so fast, neither servant witnessed it and she turn and quickly lost herself in the crowd until she was standing behind the large column closet to the royal couples.
"Pierre, stop staring at every pretty woman and bring these to the their Majesties !," barked the older servant. "His Royal Highness will be making a toast soon."
Pierre picked up the tray and carefully made his way to where Henry and Claude of France stood, watching as Henry Tudor danced with his Queen.
Once the music ended, Henry Tudor lead his wife to where his hosts stood .
Noticing the young servant, he took one of the smaller goblets.

"Now," thought Jeanne . "Let the whore take a sip and I shall see her and her spawn die."

A large, heavy hand landed upon her shoulder and she spun around to see a large man with coal black hair and startling green eyes looking at her.
"How dare......", she began but then she realized who exactly this man was.
Her employer had warned her to stay away from him. All of Rome knew of the man who was the chief guard in the employ of Queen Claude.
Sir Vincent's reputation proceeded him and it was whispered that when it came to Claude and her family and their safety, Vincent was like a demon possessed .
There was no man or country or even a king that would stop him from killing anyone who threatened the royal family.

He grabbed her by the upper arm and began dragging her to where the royals stood.

Jeanne tried to twist from his grasp as the crowd gasped in surprise but no one ever could lessen or break his grip.
" Unhand me! ," she shouted. "How dare you!".
But Vincent kept dragging her until they stood before the two Henrys.

Henry of England was in the process of handing the goblet to one of the tasters but stopped when he saw Vincent.

Vincent bowed slightly.
"Your Graces, you have charged me with protecting Queen Anne from harm. I witnessed this woman placing flowers in to the smaller goblets, no doubt in order to poison the Queen. She even stood behind yon column to make sure her poison did the job."

Jeanne dropped her mask and looked at Henry of France.
"Your Majesty! ," she quickly summoned a few tears to her beautiful eyes. "You Majesty, this ..this man belies me! I was merely standing there to watch the beautiful Queen Anne whom I have heard so much about! This man is insane !"

Jeanne looked at Anne and bobbed her head slightly. " My lady, I have never seen such a divine Queen and I merely was watching, innocently. This man says he saw me drop flowers into the goblets but as you can see, there aren't flowers on me."

She looked to Henry Tudor , her lip quivering . " Why would I wish harm to your Queen?"
She then turned to look at Queen Claude> sweet, kind, ignorant Claude who was renown for her kindness and gentleness.

Jeanne looked at Claude and her heart began to beat in real fear.
Before her stood Queen Claude but not the Queen Claude the Gentle.

I looked at the woman.
No one could deny her beauty and I was certain that her beauty made her job easier.
Perhaps, if she had just broken a few marriages or even caused young men to duel over her , I would have been able to feel some compassion.

But she was hired to kill Lady Katherine and my unborn grandchild.
She was hired to kill Anne and her unborn child.
I, who visited the seven tiny graves of my babes who were stillborn or died within a few hours, would not find compassion or mercy for this bitch of Hell who was content with causing MY son the pain of visiting a tiny grave.
While she was protesting her innocence, I looked at Vincent who nodded to me.

I stepped closer to the fake Jeanne.
" If you are innocent," I said gently while I took the goblet from Henry. "Then you will have no trouble drinking from this goblet. Indeed, it would be a great honor to share a goblet with Queen Anne."

Her eyes widened as she shook her head.
"No! I ...I refuse! I am not worthy to share her goblet!," she yelled.

I looked at Anne.
"My sister, do YOU think she is worthy to share your goblet?"

"You girl were seen dropping flowers into my wife's wine goblet and you mean to harm her and my unborn child!? How dare you. Tell me who are you?!

I looked at the young girl and then at Claude.

"This lady here is accused of trying to poison me and Katherine and harm our children.

Like Claude said my dear if you are innocent then you shall drink this wine to prove your innocence and if you do not then Vincent you may arrest her and take her away and have her room searched.

Now drink my lady"

I was about to make a toast to the new Queen of France when Vincent comes over holding a young girl by the shoulder and presents her before me.

She starts protesting and Vincent informed me of what had been seen.

"You girl these are indeed harsh accusations against you too and you were seen dropping flowers into the two goblets. If you are innocent then why protest. You seemed harmless when i first saw you but now i am not sure.

You will do as Anne says and drink the wine from her goblet then Vincent here will take you away for questioning over this matter using torture methods should he desire to do so.

You have also dropped these flowers into Katherine cup which means you intend to kill her also and the unborn child. To want to kill the queen of England and the soon to be queen of France is treason as well and i will now decide what i shall do.

Now take the goblet and drink all of it.

I nodded to to two guards .
"Hold her, " I ordered. "Vincent, pour it down her throat."
The guards held her arms while Vincent held her face in his hands and forced the drink in her mouth and then placed his hand over her mouth so she couldn't spit it out.

Jeanne's eyes were wide and she had no choice but to swallow.

We watched her for any signs of poison yet none were forthcoming.

Then, Anne noticed a fine sheen of sweat on the girl's face.
"Look!"

At Anne's words, the girl's body started to convulse as her face turned pale, then red.
Fine specks of foam appeared at her mouth and she fell to the floor.
Henry of France nodded his head and the court physician quickly kneels next to the girl. He leans close to smell her breath and then motions for his assistant who brings the man a satchel.

He rummages around in the satchel until he holds up a a vial made of dark green glass. He pops the top off and forces her to drink the entire contents.
The doctor looks at both Henrys.
"She should survive but we will need to move her to a bed."
Henry Tudor motioned to guards to help lift up the woman.
I touched the doctor's shoulder.
"Can you identify the poison?"
He looked at me.
"I believe it to be wolfs-bane and Queen Anne is very, very lucky that she didn't drink of the poison."

"Wolfsbane you say doctor that is indeed one of the deadliest poisons around.

I am so glad my wife and even my daughter did not drink any of this."
i say before speaking to Queen Claude.

"I am grateful for you seeing this early Claude and for protecting my wife too.

I would if your son agrees to have the girl tortured for information about these poisons and where they came from"

I looked at Queen Claude.

"Thank you sister Claude for the help. I would like if you could have Vincent torture the girl as your son says and i would like to find out why she would wish harm to me or my child.

Perhaps should it interest you to have a masquerade in England in return for your hospitality and kindness your majesty"
i say to Claude then turn to the doctor.

"How long before Vincent can question the girl doctor?"
