I took her hands in mine.
"My dear, " I began. "As you know , my son was betrothed to Catherine , the Pope's niece. Henry, however, fell in love your step daughter, Katherine.
Although he tried to break it to her gently, she became enraged. She even attacked me. Then, she made threats against Katherine and against you. She feels that by harming you and your unborn child , the King will be too distracted to pay attention to Katherine. She also feels that by harming YOU, it will force the King to turn back to the Pope for comfort."

I saw the fear flare in Anne's eyes for a moment and she placed her hands protectively about her stomach. and I hurried to reassure her.

"My dear, " and she was dear to me in that moment because I knew all to well the heartbreak and sorrow of losing a child ." I promise you that I shall allow no harm to come to you. I shall have my own royal guard protect you. I even place Sir Vincent as your personal body guard. In his employ, he has assassins from the far East and they shall also guard you. "

I continued. "We have received work that Catherine's box of poisons have not been located. We have one of her boxes but the main one is still hasn't been found. We have interrogated her and tortured to an extent but still she refuses to give the location of that box. We have no idea who she may have in her employ and what poisons she possess . The King and I were discussing possibly have you question her. Of course, you shall be fully protected and I, myself, shall give the order that if she harms one hair on your head, she will be cut down on the spot."

Pain.
It seemed that every inch of my body was engulfed in it.
The blood from my cheeks had dried as did the strips on my back for The Cat.
Seven lashes.
That bastard, Vincent , made sure that my once unblemished back now bore the mark of the Cat.
To even move caused tears to spring to my eyes.
My only hope lay in the fact that Phillipa , my last remaining maid, would remove my box from the bottom of my blue trunk. The trunk had been fitted with a false bottom and the box was filled with poisons as well as the antidotes.

They thought they could break me.
I snorted back a laugh.

I will give make certain that Katherine would bring forth a child of Henry's .
And I will make certain that my uncle, the Pope, will have his vengeance on Henry Tudor and his great Whore. The Painful Death will make certain that Boleyn whore goes thru such pain while expelling that bastard ......

I smiled.
Patience, I told myself.

I listened as the queen of France spoke.

"You are very kind my lady and i thank you personally for the offer of having your guard protect me as well my own.

"You say there is a box of poisons she has not said about and for her to threaten me and try to harm my child is unfair. I also see that your hand is injured. Let my personal physician have a look at it for you my lady as for myself i will indeed go and question Catherine but of course with great amount of guards my own and yours as i do not trust her and if i am to do it my lady for safety i would like the lady Catherine's hands tied behind her back before i begin.

Upon my return i shall prepare for the masquerade you have prepared and rejoin my husband.

The door to my cell swung open.
"A visitor for you," the guard announced.
So, I thought, they even refuse to address me by my title. Just one more insult to keep in my memory and to add to my vengeance.
Maria Escalate stood before. She had been my maid for as long as I could remember and I knew that she was loyal to me.

"Maria," I smiled. "You must forgive me for these poor accommodations. I fear that I cannot even offer you refreshments since I have been held here unjustly."

Maria's gray eyes teared up. "Oh, my lady," she answered in Latin. " It is an affront to your great family that you are being held here like a common criminal! I tried to bring you some clean clothes and a few personal items but the guards took them from me."

"It is of no matter," I replied. " The great Whore is in France and I am sure that she is spreading poison about me." I giggled when I said the word "poison" .

Maria leaned closer. " I am here to tell you that His Holiness is sending someone to this Court who will try to win your freedom. I do not know who or how. All I was told was that this person would make sure that neither Tudor women will bring forth a child."

I could feel the joy rising up in my body. YES! That bitch Katherine and the Whore would NOT bring forth any child. Let them taste the ashes in their mouths and the sorrow in their heart.

Knowing the guard didn't understand Latin, I answered, " You may tell my uncle that the box that they seek is right under their noses! The fools are looking for bottles!"

Maria's frowned. " I don't understand, my lady. How else would you give poison unless it is a liquid poured into their food or drink?"

I crooked my finger, motioning her closer.

IIn a carriage, making it's way to Versailles ........

Lord Manderly looked at the young woman seated across from him.
After a quick voyage over the channel, he had finally landed in France and was headed to Versailles at the request....nay, demand... of his King. He was one of the court physicians , trained by Sir William Butts himself.
Sir William was the personal doctor to Henry Tudor and tended only to the King. With Anne Bolelyn now pregnant, Henry had ordered Butts to send the brightest and smartest doctor under his department so Manderly was summoned to the French Court.

The young woman sharing the carriage had told him that her name was Jeanne Foncesca and that she ,too was on her way, to the French Court but that her carriage has suffered a mishap and if he would be so kind as to allow her to join him in his.

Her hair was the palest gold and hung in thick ringlets down her shoulders.
Her heart-shaped face was perfect and carried nary a blemish and dark gold, arched eyebrows rested above  two, wide eyes that were the color of forest. Her cupid bow lips smiled at him.
"Again, sir,"her voice was sultry and wrapped around him. " I must thank you for coming to me in my hour of need."

Manderly raised a hand. " Please, my dear, I am happy to share your presence in this carriage. Why are you traveling to Court?"

She looked at the doctor > He wasn't ugly and he wasn't handsome. His skin was pale and his brown eyes were just that : Eyes. However, when he smiled, it was warm and friendly.

He would do just fine.

"I am going to court in the place of my father, Comte Foncesca. He has taken ill and cannot make his yearly visit to court. "

"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that," he replied. " Is it serious? Pardon me for asking but as a physician, I try to learn all I can about any illnesses or sickness."

Jeanne licked her lips. "I'm afraid that Papa has been suffering with gout. Poor dear, he can barely walk."

Manderly nodded. " Of course, poor man. You must write him and tell him that he should not eat so much red meat or drink too much wine. A bland diet for a few weeks will set him right as rain."

"And why is a handsome English doctor, such as yourself, traveling to the French court? Did your wife not wish to make the journey ?" She asked innocently.

Manderly blushed slightly. "Oh, I am not married. I mean, I am betrothed but I have been sent here by command of his Majesty, King Henry of England."

Jeanne arched an eyebrow. "Oh? Commanded? I do hope it's not for anything bad."

His chest slightly puffed out. " I am the new physician to her Grace, Queen Anne. It is a great honor to be chosen to bring forth the next King of England."

For a moment, he would have sworn that her eyes nearly glowed at this information.
She smiled again at him. " You must simply tell me EVERYTHING about your new and beautiful Queen."

As Jeanne

Sir Manderly smiled at the Queen's servant.
"Yes, I am Sir Manderly. I have been sent for by Doctor Butts in order to attend her Grace."
He held out his hand and helped Jeanne step from the carriage.
Jeanne smiled demurely at him and then turned to the servant.
"This is Lady Jeanne Foncesca. Her carriage suffered a mishap and she was kind enough to share her prescence with me in my carriage. he explained.
The servant bobbed quickly.
" I shall instruct a servant to place your belongings into the chamber set aside for you, sir," the servant replied.
She turned to the beautiful woman. " Is your maid not with you, milady?"
Jeanne smiled prettily. " My maid became ill and is still in the city. She will join me as soon as she can."
The servant nodded but she could feel apprehension in the pit of her stomach.
There was just something about this woman that set the servant's nerves on edge.

A footman appeared.
"Milady," he said to Jeanne. " I shall have a servant bring your belongings to your chamber. If you will follow this ," he gestured to a  servant girl," Is Josette. She will be your maid until yours arrives."

Jeanne nodded and then turned to Manderly. " Again, I thank you for your help. I know that there is costume ball tonight and I do hope that you will seek me out."

Manderly could feel the blush creeping up his neck. " Well, ah," he stammered. " I shall be attending. Perhaps you can save a dance for me, milady."

Jeanne's eyes lowered slightly and she licked her lips.
"Of course, Sir. ," she said seductively." It will be my pleasure."

She turned and followed the maid , knowing that Manderly was watching her.
Jeanne allowed herself a small smile.
The fly was going to be trapped in her silken spider web

As Jeanne

Jeanne stopped and curtsied low to the king, allowing her ample bosom to strain against the low cut gown of blue she wore.

Henry motioned her to stand and she smiled at him.
"Your Majesty, I am Jeanne Foncesca. the Comte Foncesca's daughter. My father is unable to make the ball you are holding in honor of King Henry of England and sent me in his stead. I hope that is satisfactory to you."

Henry smiled at the beautiful young woman. " No," he said. " Your beauty is a welcome addition to court. Please let us know if you lack for anything." With that, he turned to go and stopped when he felt her hand on his arm.

"I do beg your pardon, Sire, but I seem to be lost."

The maid spoke up, " Milady, I..."

Jeanne spared the maid a hard glare and the young girl was silent.
Jeanne looked back at Henry, her eyes were once again soft.
" I fear that I will wonder around this beautiful palace quite lost."

Henry held out his arm.
"Allow me to escort you to your chambers." He nodded to the servant girl.
"Lead the way."

King's Reception Room - Page 13 Empty Re: King's Reception Room

Post by Catherine of Medici on Wed Dec 26, 2018 5:17 am

I sat in the cell that had now become my prison.
I hoped that Maria had been able to find my sewing basket and that she would plead with the guards to allow me to do some sewing.

I heard the other doors open and I stood up, expecting to see Maria.

Vincent stood at my cell and I couldn't help but shudder in fear.
My face was slow to heal and I knew that I would forever bear the scars that he gave me.

He,too, was on my list.
Before I died, I would make certain that he would suffer a horrible death.
And I would be there to witness it.
I want to touch him as he lay dying.

My cell door opened and he walked in. In his hands, he held shackles.
Was I to be whipped again?

" Turn around, My lady," he said in his gruff voice.

I widened my eyes and tried to look innocent.
"Please, sir, " I tried to stop my voice from trembling.
"Turn around NOW," he ordered.

I did as he said.
"Place your hands behind your back."

I did as he asked and felt the cold irons around my wrists and hands.
I turned to face him.
"What now?," I taunted. " Are you going to whip me again, you dog?"

He smiled at me and I felt my blood grow cold.
"Nay, my lady," he rasped. "It's not I who seeks answers from you. "
And be pushed me ahead of head, taking me out of the cell.
We walked until there was a secret passage door. He pushed it opened and then placed a firm grip on my shoulder and lead me thru it.

The passage was dank and the only light were the scattered torches that adorned the walls.
At least we came to a door and he pushed it open.

I walked into a room that was richly decorated but dimly lit with only a few candles and the roaring fireplace.
There was a large, plush high backed chair sitting in the middle and there was a figure in the chair.

For a moment, hope flared in my heart.
Perhaps the King had finally seen thru the deception of the Tudor whore and wanted to have me take my rightful place as his intended.
Why, he was probably so relived that he would have me backm that he would grant me anything I wanted.
Claude ,that hateful cow, would be banished to a convent and Vincent..... well, I had special plans for Vincent.
My uncle would be so proud of me that he would probably bless our marriage himself.

I stepped closer to the chair.
" Henry?," I asked hopefully.

A candle on the table next to the chair was lit and I saw then the silken raven tresses and the golden crown nestled on her brow.
I took a falterings step back, ready to turn and run but Vincent stood behind me .

" Why, you must be Catherine Medici," her voice was sounded like golden honey.
"I have been waiting to meet you," and she smiled at me but the smile never reached her dark eyes.

"Allow me to introduce myself," she said. " I am Queen Anne of England. And I believe that we have so much to discuss."

"You i see are the cause of all the troubles here in France" i say to her as i move closer and signal Vincent to stay.

My ladies move forward with me.
A large bucket of water is placed on the table next to me and i then speak to Vincent.

"Place her in this chair and keep hold of her my lord". I say as Vincent does this then i look towards the Medici girl.

"Now my dear there is something that you are keeping from all the French about a certain box you possess that they would like to know about. Now we can make this easy or hard.
Just tell me where your box of poison is and you will suffer no more and i will arrange that you will not suffer anymore." I say to her

Vincent shoved me roughly into the chair.
I looked at this beautiful queen in defiance.
"I am the niece of His Holiness the Pope! He will send war to England if you harm me! He will bring war to France for the abuse I have suffered! Do you think that your husband would go to war over you, the Great Whore?" I laughed.

I looked at her and her maids . "Fools! I shall dance in your blood and rejoice in your deaths! You seek a box of poisons? Then you shall search for the box until the end of time!"

I settled my gaze on Anne's belly, already swollen with child.
"Your babe, sleeping so innocently within your womb.," I said innocently. " There are all manners of terrible things that could happen to your bastard. And it IS a bastard. Princess Mary is the only legal child of Henry Tudor. Your stepdaughter Katherine is just like you. Sleeping with the husbands of other women."

Vincent stepped forward, placing himself slightly in front of Anne. "You are NOT the wife of my King. You are just some orphaned bitch that the Pope wants rid of and tried to pawn you off on France."

" I WILL BE QUEEN! !", I yelled . " And when I am Queen, I shall see to it that you, Sir Vincent, will feel my wrath!"

He smiled at me then. For such a handsome man, his smile was cold and frightening .

" Your wrath? Oh, I think I shall survive that, my lady. You are nothing more than a manipulative bitch that isn't good enough to empty Queen Anne's chamber pot. No, I think that you should be more frightened of Queen Anne's wrath.  You've threatened her child and stepdaughter. You threatened the things she holds dear and I am certain that once Henry Tudor finds out, you will beg for death."

"I do thank you for showing me to my chambers, Sire. Although," She lowered her gaze slightly. " You're bringing me to the chamber has a another meaning to me."

Henry frowned slightly. "What meaning?"

Jeanne licked her upper lipped and she leaned closer and whispered, " Meaning that you now know where my chambers are." And then she entered the room, closing the door behind her.

The slap caused my cheek to throb but that was no matter.
Let Anne The Whore do her worst.

I laughed at her. "A slap? Is that the best you have? I have endured more at the hands of my tutors. There is no box that you can find. If you're going to kill me, then do it. Then I suggest that you go home to England and wait for the Pope's armies to conquer your land!"

The truth was, I was beginning to grow frightened .
Maria had informed me that there was a spy , here at Versailles, who would help bring me freedom.
I must survive this.
Only then would I have my vengeance on France and England.

Anne stepped closer.
I had heard from my uncle and from her enemies that she was an ugly witch of a woman with the Devil's extra finger and a large wen upon her neck and that her complexion was sallow.

I glanced at her hands and all I could see were elegant , slim fingers.
The "wen" was nothing more that a small beauty mark.
And while her skin was not the pale, white skin poets spoke about, it was a warm color and not sallow at all.

I dared to sneak a glance at Vincent and lifted my chin.
" Do your worst, Dog. You and the Great Whore can do nothing to me !"

Anne smiled at me and placed a soft hand on my cheek and said, " Oh, that's where you are VERY mistaken. "

If you do not tell us then my husband and king Henry of France have agreed to go to greater measures to find out. Think wisely." I say to her as she is dragged towards the door by Vincent

I nodded to Henry.
I was wearing my costume for the ball.
I had chosen to portray Hestia, the Goddess of the Hearth and my gown was the color of flames and simple red and orange roses adorned my hair.

He entered my room and sat on the edge of my bed, just he had done when he was a small child.

Vincent grabbed Catherine by her upper arm and pulled her from the chair.
Catherine squeaked out in surprise as Vincent then dragged her from the room and back thru the tunnels . He dragged her The Cells until they came upon the door to her cell.
He shoved her thru and then shut the door.
She looked at him with complete hate.
"You're just a dog for that Whore!," she seethed.

Vincent leaned his face closer to the bars.
"Better to be a dog to a good master than to be a bitch who has nothing to offer other than what is between her legs."

Another guard appeared at his side.
Vincent jerked his head towards Catherine.

I looked at my mother and then i spoke.

"You look stunning mother you certainly are a true queen and you will be great playing Hestia."

"My trip was indeed a success mother and all of the lords agreed to the new deals i proposed to them as well.

"I did want to ask you something mother. Have you met this new maid Jeanne? She seems so kind and very friendly too. I will be honoured to have her at court."

I then thought of the Medici girl.
"Mother tonight is to be an important night for all of us and our guests so i would like for the guard on Medicis cell to be doubled and have Vincent keep her in handcuffs as we all know what she can do with her hands.

Can you arrange that for me mother?

"Vincent himself will be guarding her. As for Jeanne, the only noble I know of that name is the Comte Foncesca's daughter. " I frowned.
Henry looked at me. " Yes, that is her name. Why? What is it?"

I looked at him. " Jeanne Foncesca died three years ago of a fever. "
His eyes widened and he made to turn away but I grabbed him by the arm.

" Wait! ," I exclaimed. "She doesn't know that WE know she's a spy. Let her think that she is the one in power but we know better. Double the guards around Katherine and Anne. Speak with Henry and let him know but do not tell Anne . There is no need to worry her. We will catch her in her own trap."
